The Family Cohesion design, created by renowned designer Kai-Chun Ma, is a residential space specifically designed to foster a strong sense of family unity. This innovative design focuses on combining art, architecture, and functionality to create a living space that promotes interaction and emotional connection among family members.
The inspiration behind the Family Cohesion design stems from the belief that a well-designed living space can have a profound impact on the quality of life. By blending urban views or natural environments with artistic elements, this design breaks away from traditional function-based buildings and spaces, offering a unique and aesthetically pleasing experience.
What sets the Family Cohesion design apart is its ability to balance modern neatness with a cozy atmosphere. The use of black and grey lines and furnishings creates a spatial expression that is 80 percent modern and 20 percent cozy. The arrangement of large areas within the living space achieves a casual and stress-relief effect, making it the perfect center for family activities.
The design of the Family Cohesion unit encourages the owner to re-examine their focus on life and enhances the warmth and connection within the family. Natural, simple, and stress-free spaces are used to comfort the soul and create meaningful moments spent with loved ones.
When it comes to the realization of the design, Kai-Chun Ma prioritizes the use of non-toxic and eco-friendly materials. Special paint imported from Italy, stucco, and diatomaceous earth are just a few examples of the materials used to ensure a healthy living space for children. The different levels of brightness and temperature within the design highlight the internal emotions of the home, creating a harmonious environment.
The Family Cohesion design features an indoor area of approximately 191 square feet, providing ample space for family members to interact and engage with one another. The linear elements within the design extend the syntax of public and private areas, minimizing spatial colors and responding to the demand for eco-friendly green materials.
Throughout the design, the interaction between different areas is carefully considered to provide tranquility and comfort. The hallway, for example, extends spatial transparency and visual interaction using grey glass, while the beams serve as the center of the space, reflecting simplicity and balance.
The Family Cohesion design project was completed in December 2018 in Taipei City, Taiwan. Throughout the design process, Kai-Chun Ma conducted extensive research to ensure that the design met the needs and desires of young families. The trapezoid shape of the dining and kitchen area, for instance, was specifically designed to create a sense of openness and rhythm through lighting and shadow.
The Family Cohesion design overcame several creative and technical challenges to achieve its goal of promoting parent-child exchange and appealing to a modern lifestyle. By skillfully applying visual extension, crisscrossing elements, and blending, the design maintains the perfect balance between flexibility and functionality.
Recognized for its outstanding creativity and ingenuity, the Family Cohesion design was awarded the Bronze A' Design Award in the Interior Space, Retail, and Exhibition Design category in 2020. This prestigious award is bestowed upon designs that exhibit strong technical and creative skills, contributing to improvements in quality of life.
The Family Cohesion design by Kai-Chun Ma is a testament to the power of thoughtful design in creating harmonious and meaningful living spaces for young families. By prioritizing aesthetics, functionality, and the emotional well-being of its inhabitants, this design truly stands out in the realm of residential spaces.
